Ahoy there sailor, full speed ahead !

  • Chaloupe au large de la baie du Pouliguen
  • Chaloupe dans le port du Pouliguen
Experience the thrill of sailing aboard a tall ship, the sardine fishing boat Poulligwen!

Here’s Marc’s travelogue who set sail with his wife Catherine:

'We’ve no time to loose! The Captain is waiting for us to cast off! There we are standing on the port at Le Pouliguen:

Didier the president of the association which manages the tall ship welcomes us warmly.

The weather is perfect: sunshine and a light breeze. We have the pleasant feeling of being privileged when climbing on board as there are only 8 passengers. We climb down a small ladder and for our safety, pull on our lifejackets !

The captain starts up the engine to get us out of the port. The passers-by on Le Pouliguen’s promenade wave to us as we sail parallel to it out towards the horizon. Once out to sea the Captain hoists the sails. We carefully follow his instructions. Didier tells us the history of this boat and how it had been restored.

The view is superb : on one side La Baule and Pornichet, and on the other, the headland of Penchâteau, with the sailing boats belonging to the Cercle Nautique. A bit further out we can see the island Les Evens.

The Captain suggests that we take the helm and explains how to manoeuvre. Without hesitation we take him up on his offer: we feel a sense of freedom, like we never had before !

Time just flew by! There we are already heading back to port, our hair windswept... and images etched in our minds forever!!'
