Live the experience, the time of a guided tour, of the construction of the Oasis 3 the largest cruise liner in the world.

14h30 : We meet up with our guide, Anne-Solène, in front of the imposing German submarine base situated in the area of ‘Ville-port’  in Saint-Nazaire.
A quick presentation of the visit as the coach gets underway…we’ve no time to loose.  All of us eager to delve behind the scenes of this massive hive of industry where close on 6 400 people work away!!!

14h40 : The coach arrives in front of the gates to the Shipyards.   Authorization is given for us to enter by the security guard, the barrier goes up.  The excitement in the coach reaches fever pitch….our adventure begins!
Thank goodness we’re travelling by coach, the Shipyards cover an area of almost 110 hectares.  The site holds no secrets for our expert guide so our coach is strategically parked at every turn so that we don’t miss out on any of the fascinating detail of this tour.
« If you take a look to your right, you’ll see that one of the workshops is open, this isn’t always the case, make the most of it and check out what’s happening inside! ».
Some welders are busy assembling sheets of steel some of which weigh more than 5 tonnes.
« This is just awesome ! », the person sat next to me whispers in my ear, « they look as though they putting together massive lego bricks!!! » at the foot of the most powerful gantry crane in Europe; the red and white ‘TGP’ (‘Très Grand Portique’) as it’s called in the shipyard - which can be clearly seen from Saint-Nazaire’s bridge.

15h23 : This moment is unforgettable, as we get down from the coach to go into the assembly dock. There it stands before us a colossus some 362 metres long and 72 metres high!  We’re totally dwarfed by it!  We’re just burning with so many questions we’d love to ask!  «How is it possible to co-ordinate the efforts so many different trades? Where did they find people with such amazing skills and know-how?  How on earth do you meet a challenge of this magnitude? ». This is a spectacle second to none which we’re witnessing… awestruck!  Each and every worker busies him/herself with the task in hand amidst the deafening noise.  Fortunately for us we have our headsets which enable us to follow Anne-Solène’s explanations with great interest.
«On board there will be…wait for it...: a good twenty restaurants, a zip-line, a jogging track… » Over to you now if you want to find out what else can is to be found aboard this floating amusement park ‘A funship’ as they call it here…come and follow this fantastic guided tour for yourselves we promise you it will leave you with lasting memories and images which will stay with you forever.
16h: time to return back to the submarine base.  Wow!  The adventure isn’t over yet!   We all get to visit ‘Escal Atlantic’, a tour which takes us back to the time of the grand transatlantic liners…to follow in the footsteps of the passengers from an exciting era from days gone by.
