Become a sailor just for one day !

At La Turballe, become a sailor for a day (or forever!) by taking part in the various visits and activities offered on the theme of fishing.

Come onboard of the 'Gré des Vents'

Come and visit a genuine fishing boat moored in the port. Emblematic of the sardine fishing industry of La Turballe. The vessel "Au gré des Vents" was built in 1964 in the François shipbuilding yard at Le Croisic. This vessel ceased its actity following the adoption of Le Plan 'Mellick' (reduction of number of older vessels in the french fishing fleet) in 1992. A small group of people from La Turballe moved by the destruction of hundreds of boats decided to save this particular vessel. An association was created to preserve, develop and transmit hte heritage of La Turballe.

The staff of the museum 'La Maison de la Pêche' organize guided tours of this sardine fishing boat. These include not only : learning about the history of the vessel, how life was aboard, the fishing techniques used but also a look around the inside of the boat to see : the berths, the wheelhouse, the cold storage space, the deck...

Length of the visit : 45 min.
It's possible to combine this visit with the museum.

Meeting with a fisherman

"It is 7:30 am: the port of La Turballe is in turmoil. Other fishermen join us and we embark on the boat of a fisherman who gives us some explanations. Off Belle-île-en-mer, he cuts the engine. Lined up on the deck and in the water, we try to reproduce the movement taught. Over the course of the day, we go up juliennes, gurnards, bass and pollock, some of which weigh around 5 kg! At the end day, heading for La Turballe, with a touch of nostalgia. We leave with a smile and our catches. The pleasures of fishing will continue this evening at the table and we will playfully tell the anecdotes of this sea trip."
