Panoramic view from the church of Saint-Lyphard

This church is for real, dominated by a pink bell tower which lends the opportunity for a 360° panoramic view of La Brière.

Scramble to the top of the bell tower

This ‘voyage’ of discovery starts with a circular ascent up the spiral staircase as you make your way to the first stop off point. Here you can admire the church’s vaulted ceiling and the weather cock - which once stood proudly at the very summit of the bell tower. One last flight of steps…and WOW you can touch the heavens!! The reward for your efforts lies in the breathtaking view afforded to you across the entire area from the bridge at Saint-Nazaire to the collegiate church of Guérande.

A city at the heart of La Brière

This countryside village is set on the very edges of the marshlands of La Grande Brière and boasts an amazing 800 thatched cottages in this one community alone, located across several hamlets such as the most well-known that of Kerhinet, a ‘museum-village’.

The Church of Saint-Lyphard

The first church of Saint-Lyphard was one of the oldest in the diocese of Nantes. At the end of the 19th century, it was decided to rebuild it by moving it slightly. The first stone was laid on July 23, 1885. In 1905, the law of separation of the Church and the State involved the stop of the work which resumed only in 1935. Of neo-Gothic style and in the shape of a Latin cross, it combines granite on the outside and limestone on the inside. At the top of the concrete spire, the cross culminates at 45 meters.
In 2002, the town decided to fully restore its church with heavy restructuring and embellishment of the building and its spire.

Do you know who Saint-Lyphard is?

Some stained glass windows in the church recall some facts of his life. He was born in Orléans in 477, "Franc" by origin and of royal race. He was charged by his cousin Clovis to maintain justice. At 40, he retired for 3 years to the monastery of Micy. This life seemed too sweet to him, he went to Meung-sur-Loire, where he made many disciples, who would go on to announce the gospel in many regions.
