Come and (re)discover the city's iconic building and ramparts!

Relive the history of the city by walking through the medieval rooms on the first floor, explore the temporary exhibition on the second floor and enjoy a stroll along the ramparts to get a bird's eye view.

Family workshops and guided tours are available to learn more about the hidden secrets of the enclosure.

You can use it to book museum tickets, medieval birthday parties, mystery investigations at the Porte Saint-Michel, and workshops/activities during the school holidays.

2025-2026 PROGRAMME:

- Exhibition ‘Au fil du bois’ (Along the Wood): Following on from its exhibitions devoted to water (Fontaine, Boirai-je de ton eau ? in 2023) and wind (Moulin, tu dors ? in 2024), the Guérande Museum is exploring a new theme: wood.
Appreciated throughout history for its durability, practicality and availability, wood as a material has stood the test of time.

 From the history of the CHELET company, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary, to the traditional expertise of the CHEDEMOIS and MONNIER companies, this exhibition tells the unique story of a region dependent on an external resource, which has managed to turn it into a lever for trade, craftsmanship and inventiveness. It offers a journey through the uses of wood and provides the keys to understanding its circuits, networks and role in the region's development. An invitation to observe, understand, play... and imagine the future.
From 4 October 2025 to 22 March 2026. Price included in the admission fee.

- Family investigation - Mystery at the Porte Saint-Michel (approx. 1½ hours)
Five locked boxes, an old leather notebook that belonged to the last captain of the town of Guérande, and above all, a golden box to be found.
The museum needs your help with an investigation of the utmost importance, but shhh... We can't tell you any more here. Bring the whole family to explore the Porte Saint-Michel through a series of challenges that will require you to think, but that's not all. Cooperation between young and old will be essential!
Weekends at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Tuesday to Sunday during school holidays (zones B and C) at the same times.
Between 2 and 6 people, including at least one adult. Recommended for ages 7 and up.
Reservations required.

Guided tours are available:
- A tour from top to bottom (45 mins): An unmissable tour to learn about the monument. A passionate and fascinating tour guide will reveal the secrets of the history and architecture of the site and take you up to the attic, which is not normally accessible!

- La Porte Saint-Michel in every sense (45 mins): A sensory tour for families, for children aged 5 and over.

Additional information:

- Access with pushchairs is particularly difficult on the stairs between floors. Baby carriers are recommended. There is a space available to leave pushchairs and baby carriers can be borrowed.
- To facilitate visitor flow and avoid waiting times, it is advisable to visit in the morning or at the end of the day.
