Visit a salina in company of - Nicolas Arnould
Visit a salt marsh in Le Rostu: from water to crystal
Nicolas ARNOULD is a salt worker (paludier) in the Mès basin and invites you to discover his work and passion during a guided walk following the intricate water circuit of the salina and ending with a visit of the ‘salorge’ (salt barn).
Please book beforehand. Duration: 2h30
July/August, one or two tours per week according to the plan available at the Mesquer tourist information center.
Tours for groups and schools can be booked throughout the whole year.
Discover M. Arnould’s work in the salina in the Mès basin, followed by a visit of the ‘salorge’ (salt barn) of Rostu.
Meeting point is at the ‘Salorge de Rostu’ in Mesquer.
We invite you to discover our family run salt business from March to October.
The tour is a beautiful excursion leading from the ocean to the salina, revealing you the secrets of the production cycle and traditional work methods.
Following the ‘étier’ water channel, along to the ‘vasière’ decantation basin and passing by the ‘cobier’, we will walk along the water circuit to reach the salina where the crystallisation process eventually takes place during the summer months.
You will receive extensive explanations on the functioning of such a salina, on the work of the ‘paludiers’ and the very unusual tools they use. At the same time, you will be able to enjoy this still perfectly untouched natural site and escape from daily stress: no cars, pollution or noise apart from bird song.
The walk takes about 2,5 hours and will be going through rough terrain. Please come equipped according to the weather: with sturdy footwear or rain boots and coats, sun glasses and hats…
Tours available in French and German.
